Meet the Musical Director

Lancing Brass have been very fortunate in appointing David Martin as MD. He has taken over from Tim Lincoln who has decided he wanted to revert to playing Bb bass in the Band. David was born and grew up in Barry, South Wales, into a Salvationist family. He began his banding life on the bass drum and soon progressed to Baritone and then in teenage years on to Eb Bass. Whilst still in school David gained a vocal scholarship to the junior department of the Welsh College of Music and Drama and was a member of the South Glamorgan Youth Choir. David studied Music at the University of Liverpool where he set up the University Wind Orchestra and discovered that he enjoyed conducting. This lead on to conducting the University Choir and shows for the Gilbert and Sullivan Society. Professionally David is currently the Music Subject Leader at Worthing High School and has previously held similar roles at Durrington High School and Davison CE School for Girls. He also served as head of performing arts at Whitecross School, Lydney. David has conducted several youth bands including the Durrington High School Concert Band, the Adur Youth Band and Davison Worthing Youth Concert Band. Choral director posts include Cor Glandulais, Pontarddulais and The Gate Community Chorus, Cardiff. As Musical Director for various companies he has conducted many stage favourites including Sweet Charity, Camelot, Little Shop of Horrors, and Guys & Dolls. When not in the pit David is an enthusiastic member of the stage cast taking principal roles in numerous shows including, The Baker’s Wife, Godspell and Iolanthe. A member of Littlehampton Baptist Church, David regularly plays piano for Sunday Worship services. David, who has fitted in well with Lancing Brass, has taken over for most of the Summer engagements and is now looking forward to a busy Christmas season.
